The eternally optimistic talking sea sponge known as Spongebob sets out on his biggest adventure yet to prove himself a “big guy” after accidentally summoning the ghostly pirate known as the Flying Dutchman. Desperate to prove himself as more than a goofy sponge, Spongebob and his friend Patrick Starr join the pirate’s crew after he promises to transform them into swashbucklers but does he have something more sinister up his sleeve? The residents of Bikini Bottom, worried about Spongebob’s safety, set off to bring him home but, whilst Squidward, Mr Krabs and Gary the Snail are on their rescue mission, the sneaky Plankton sets an evil plan into motion. Big hearted, typically zany and always unpredictable, this big-screen tale of the television icon also touches upon discussions around growing up, bravery and friendship.

This year’s Into Film Festival will take place between 6-27 November 2026, and will once again help educators bring learning to life for 5-19-year-olds across the UK by inspiring young people to watch, understand and make films in new and creative ways.

And as well as celebrating the world of film – both in front of and behind the camera – this year’s Festival will also be supporting the National Year of Reading, encouraging children and young people everywhere to Go All In on the films they love by reading into them.
